Neurogel / Neurocreme® Survey Results – August 18, 2009

Survey Description

A survey was given to each patient who used any Neurocreme® (or the older “Neurogel”) transdermal preparation. Returned surveys revealed many different diagnoses. All diagnoses were utilized for the analysis below. The survey dates are through January 18, 2001, through July 31st, 2009.

Summary

For all diagnoses, greater analgesia was achieved with Neurocreme® (greater than or equal to) 15%. Results show that the creme (or the older gel form, Neurogel) helped in 723 of 909 diagnoses (80%). 186 of these 909 diagnoses (20%) were treatment failures. Failures were due to either (1) insufficient analgesia or (2) side effects. If you would like a copy of the complete survey, please contact our compounding pharmacist at 619.287.5107 or you can use the link above.

Please note that "Post-surgical Neuropathy" is loosely defined as "any neuropathy not in evidence before a surgery, but present sometime after a surgery". Please note that "Miscellaneous Neuropathies" include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Guillame-Barre Syndrome, Hyperalgesia, Meralgia Paresthetica, Myelitis, Neuritis, Neuromas, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Spinal Stenosis.

In the table above, treatment failures were subtracted from the total number of diagnoses for each diagnostic category. The resulting "successful" diagnoses were then divided by the Dx total to yield the "Success Rate". Pain levels utilized a 10-point scale with 10 indicating the severest pain. Baseline pain levels ranged from 10 to 2. Seven to 10-day pain levels ranged from 9 to zero. The degree of analgesia ("Pain Reduction") was calculated by a comparison of the two pain levels.
