Hormone Replacement for Women - An introduction
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is for any woman who requires hormone supplementation. This therapy treats and/or prevents discomfort and health problems associates with diminished hormone levels. Many perimenopausal and postmenopausal women fit into this category.
The term "bio-identical" refers not to the source of the hormone, but rather its chemical structure. In other words, bio-identical hormones have the same chemical structure as hormones made by the human body. Synthetic hormones - and these include horse preparations - do not. The structural differences that exist between bio-identical hormones and synthetic hormones may be responsible for the side effects felt by many women who have used (or are using) non-BHRT hormones.
Bio-identical hormones include the estrogens - estrone, estradiol and estriol - and progesterone, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and pregnenolone. Their sources include soy and the Mexican yam dioscorea. These plant sources are manipulated by chemical laboratories to yield the "natural" hormones listed here.
Perimenopausal or Postmenopausal symptoms may include:

If you are a woman experiencing any of these symptoms you should seek a consultation with your doctor. Your doctor can then diagnosis and prescribe the best method of treatment. If required we can work with your physician to create the proper dosage Hormone Replacement Therapy for you. The FDA "wants this to be conversation between a woman and her doctor that is based on the best scientific information available".
Hormone Replacement for Men - An introduction
Bio-identical hormone replacement (BHRT) for men is limited to testosterone and DHEA for the most part. Testosterone is a potent
anabolic (tissue building) hormone and is responsible for the development and maintenance of male characteristics. These include muscle mass, hair growth, sex organs, and sex drive. DHEA is a much weaker anabolic hormone. Interestingly, it has been used by men - in very large doses, by the way - to increase muscle mass.
